Ford Once Again Recalling Millions of Vehicles Due to Dangerous Defects

shutterstock_1548989048

In June, Ford recalled more than two million vehicles due to the vehicles’ doors coming open while the cars are on the road—a serious defect that could cause death or serious bodily injury. The problem is reportedly due to faulty door latches, which contain a part that can crack, especially as it is subject to high heat. As a result, the door is difficult to close properly, although the driver does not realize it, as it still appears to be closed, but will unexpectedly pop open once the car is already engaged.

The current recall covers the following models years ranging from 2011 to 2016:

  • C-Max
  • Escape SUVs
  • Focus
  • Ford Fiesta
  • Fusion
  • Lincoln MKZ sedans
  • MKC SUVs
  • Mustang
  • Transit Connect vans

Evidence Indicates That Ford’s Door Problem Has Been Around, Causing Problems, Since 2016

Ford vehicles have already been recalled before for this exact same issue, leaving Ford now blaming dealers and claiming that they either did not do the work at all, or did not do it correctly. While Ford has indicated that it is unaware of any crashes or injuries due to the issue,  the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration‘s public reporting database indicates that a number of complaints have been submitted on issues related to doors coming open while the vehicles are being driven. In addition, this recall follows two identical previous recalls in 2016 and 2017, indicating that the courts will not likely be sympathetic towards Ford if and when class action lawsuits are brought against the company, as it has had ample notice and time to fix the issue.

F-150 Trucks Also Having Brake Problems, Causing Accidents & Injuries

Ford also recently announced a recall of almost 300,000 F-150 trucks for 2014 to 2017 model years due to leaks in the brake master cylinders, which can weaken the front brakes. According to reports, this dangerous defect has already been tied to at least seven accidents and two injuries that the company is aware of. Ongoing litigation is constantly being initiated over this issue, as many have complained that the issue has caused sudden brake failures and Ford has known about the problem for some time.  In one class action lawsuit ruled on this year, the judge agreed with plaintiffs that Ford must have known about the brake problem prior to their report of the issue due to customer complaints and repair data, thus allowing plaintiffs to move forward with fraud-based claims.
